ORCHESTRA FILARMONIA VENETA "GF MALIPIERO"
Founded in 1980 on the initiative of Armando Gatto, the orchestra usually plays during the opera and symphonic season in the traditional Veneto region theatres like Treviso, Rovigo and the Bassano Opera Festival.
Since 1999 it has been employed by the Regione Veneto as the third operatic-symphonic pole for music and cultural promotion. It was also employed for the International Opera Workshop La bottega directed by Peter Maag, who produced all the performances: The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan Tutte, Falstaff, Il Turco in Italia, Lucia di Lammermoor, I Quattro Rusteghi, La Sonnambula, Rigoletto, Pamela Nubile, Pamela maritata, Un Ballo in Maschera, The Barber of Seville, Die Zauberflöte, Carmen, Il Matrimonio segreto, Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Faust. It has performed in numerous festivals and on famous stages from the Gonfalone Concerts in Rome, to the Opera Giocosa Theatre in Savona, Mittelfest, The Fenice Theatre in Venice, the Dal Verme Theatre and the Sala Verdi in Milan, the Politeama Rossetti in Trieste, the Fondazione Cini in Venice, the Pavia University, the theatres in Bolzano, Ferrara, Livorno, Modena, Messina, Pisa, Pordenone, Ravenna, Trento, Udine, Vercelli, Vicenza, in Austria, Croatia, France and Poland. It has recorded unpublished pieces from Malipiero under the baton of Peter Maag for Naxos, La Romanziera and L’Uomo Nero by Donizetti and Il divertimento dei Numi by Paisiello for Bongiovanni, and other CDs with music by Haydn and Mozart, the Oratorio Jephte et Helcana by Galuppi in its first ever symphonic recording and overtures from operas by Verdi, music by Strauss and New York, New York, for Rivo Alto.
Prestigious conductors, like Andretta, Arena, Bisanti, Blake, Campanella, Campori, De Bernart, Ephrikian, Fournillier, Garbarino, Gatti, Gatto (Artistic Director until 1984), Gessi, Giovaninetti, Gracis, Letonja, Maag, Martin, Morandi, Pesko, Pidò, Piva, Renzetti (Principal Conductor from 1996 to 1997), Rizzi Brignoli, Severini (Principal Conductor from 1984 to 1987), Soudant, Tchakarov, have led the orchestra at various times. It has played with internationally famous soloists. Its Artistic Director is Sergio Balestracci. Romolo Gessi has been the Principal Guest Conductor since 2006.
